If yes, when? no Does the Undergraduate Adviser (staff) sign the Education Abroad Program academic planning form, or must a faculty adviser (professor) sign? faculty advisor Should we advise students to make an appointment to have their academic planning form signed in your department? If so, do they need to bring a transcript or any other supplemental materials with them to their appointment? Students should email Prof. Feldman (feldman@berkeley.edu) to make an appointment, and bring transcripts. What is the maximum amount of major credit given for courses taken during the education abroad program? Is this maximum calculated by number of courses or by units of credit? Please explain. Each student's program is evaluated individually. Are students in your department able to undertake senior honors theses the semester following EAP participation or are there restrictions? Please explain. Students must take the honors thesis during their senior year, and must meet minimum GPA requirements. Does your department calculate EAP grades into the departmental GPA? yes Are EAP grades counted toward departmental honors? yes If you represent a department that teaches foreign language, does your department award major credit for the courses taken during the Intensive Language Program (ILP) portion of the EAP program? If so, please explain. Students who wish to take a language program abroad are advised to meet with the appropriate language program coordinator here prior to taking the program abroad, to see if courses in the program abroad will be accepted as prerequisites for advanced language courses taken here. Does your department distribute a special information sheet for your majors that includes advice on how to articulate courses taken on EAP with the major? No. Students who plan to take courses at other universities, either abroad or in summer sessions, must meet with the appropriate language program coordinator here BEFORE they go. If yes, do you also provide this information on your departmental website? What is the URL? Finally, most EAP students are required to officially declare their major before departure. Returning EAP students who attempt to register through Tele-BEARS from abroad need adviser codes to pre-enroll for courses. What is your departmental policy on releasing advisor codes (AC's) to EAP students? In our department, students in the major meet with the faculty advisor to get their advisor code. If they are away from campus during the Telebears period, they correspond via email with the faculty advisor. OTHER COMMENTS:
