1. Is there a specific time frame in which students are required to declare a major in your department? If yes, when? YES! SW IS AN IMPACTED MAJOR ACCEPTING A LIMITED AMOUNT OF STUDENTS EACH YEAR. STUDENTS ARE ACCEPTED ON A FIRST-COME/FIRST-SERVE BASIS UNTIL THE AVAILABLE SLOTS ARE FILLED. STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE ALL PRE-REQUISITES IN ORDER TO BE DECLARED. CURRENT TRENDS WOULD INDICATE A STUDENT SHOULD BE DONE WITH ALL PRE-REQUISITES BY THE END OF THE FALL SOPHOMORE SEMESTER IN ORDER TO DECLARE THE MAJOR AND GRADUATE ON TIME. 2. Does the Undergraduate Adviser (staff) sign the Education Abroad Program academic planning form, or must a faculty adviser (professor) sign? THE UG ADVISOR HANDLES THE PAPERWORK AND APPROVAL. 3. Should we advise students to make an appointment to have their academic planning form signed in your department? If so, do they need to bring a transcript or any other supplemental materials with them to their appointment? WALK-IN ADVISING HOURS ARE 9 TO NOON AND 1 TO 4PM DAILY. NO APPOINTMENTS ARE NECESSARY. 4. What is the maximum amount of major credit given for courses taken during the education abroad program? Is this maximum calculated by number of courses or by units of credit? Please explain. THERE IS NO MAXIMUM AMOUNT. 5. Are students in your department able to undertake senior honors theses the semester following EAP participation or are there restrictions? Please explain. THE ONLY RESTRICTION IS THAT A STUDENT MUST TAKE A HONOR'S SEMINAR IN THE FALL AND THEN WRITE THE THESIS AFTER THAT. 6. Does your department calculate EAP grades into the departmental GPA? IF THE COURSES ARE APPROVED TO BE USED TO FULFILL MAJOR REQUIREMENTS, THEN THE EAP GRADE WOULD BE CALCULATED. 7. Are EAP grades counted towards departmental honors? YES. 8. If you represent a department which teaches foreign language, does your department award major credit for the courses taken during the Intensive Language Program (ILP) portion of the EAP program? If so, please explain. N/A 9. Does your department distribute a special information sheet for your majors which includes advice on how to articulate participation with EAP with the major? NO. 10. If yes, do you also provide this information on your departmental website? What is the URL? N/A 11. Finally, most EAP students are required to officially declare their major before departure. Returning EAP students who attempt to register through Tele-BEARS from abroad need adviser codes to pre-enroll for courses. What is your departmental policy on releasing advisor codes (AC's) to EAP students? SOCIAL WELFARE DOES NOT REQUIRE ADVISING CODES. L&S REQUIRES THEM FOR DOUBLE MAJORS AND IN THAT SITUATION, WE RELEASE THEM WITHOUT RESTRICTION.
IF YOU GO ABROAD, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SPEND ALL YOUR TIME IN THE CLASSROOM OR LIBRARIES OF YOUR HOST COUNTRY. |
