Expectations for Visiting the Office and Applying for a Program
Our general philosophy
about advising:
We are committed to supporting your process of cultivating the skills
you will need for your experience abroad. Key skills include systematic
gathering of information, analysis of information, critical
thinking and reflection in order to make the best use of the
information you have gathered.
Ratio of Visitors to
Staff:
Due to a large volume of visitors and a high ratio of visitors to staff,
our drop-in advising capacity is limited to 10-minutes per student. During
some of the day, a wait between twenty minutes and one hour is not uncommon.
If you notice that several students are on the sign-in sheet ahead of
you, you can expect a substantial wait, so please plan accordingly.
Drop-in advising (EAP
ONLY): (Non-EAP click here)
Most EAP programs do not require that you meet with an EAP adviser before
you apply. However, you will need to meet with an EAP adviser if:
· After completing
the EAP Self-Assessment, you have determined that you do not meet requirements
such as overall GPA, language pre-requisites, or other program pre-requisites.
· To apply for the programs listed below, you must obtain clearance
from the adviser for that program specifically.
For all programs, you
will need to complete a Self-Assessment Worksheet to determine
if you are eligible to apply. Expect to spend an average of 2 hours researching
each country of interest, in order to complete the Self-Assessment
Worksheet for that country.
If any information on your
Self-Assessment Worksheet is still blank at the time of your
drop-in advising, you will need to complete it before your drop-in advising
session can begin.

Access to advisers:
Each adviser in our office has drop-in hours (see
drop-in schedule and contact info) and is available to be contacted by e-mail.
Please be sure that you have thoroughly researched the materials pertaining
to your program before contacting your specific EAP adviser. If you would
like to contact Berkeley students who have previously been on the EAP
program you're considering, please ask at the front counter for a contact
list containing names and e-mail addresses of past participants.
