Applying as a Transfer Student: Advice
We know what you're thinking:
"I just got here and I only have two years to go at Cal. I came
in with between 60 and 70 units and I can only take 60 to 70 more before
I have to graduate. Money's tight, and I have to work to make ends meet
on top of what I get from financial aid. So, how could I go on EAP?"
We think you can go,
if you start planning now, and even do it within your two years left at
UCB. On the positive side, you know what you're majoring in and you can
plan the rest of your college career with advice from college and major
advisers. You can study almost any subject or any specialty on EAP at
a myriad of locations around the globe.
* EAP has lots of
summer and semester options at very affordable prices. In many EAP locations
English is the language of instruction.
* Financial Aid transfers
to EAP. On EAP you're a registered UCB student and all your state and
federal aid transfers to our program. Financial aid will continue until
you have exceeded 10 consecutive semesters (five years) as a registered
student.
* Grades from EAP
appear on your UCB transcript and count toward your overall g.p.a. Majors
usually accept several courses from EAP towards major requirements.
* For most programs
you need a 3.0 GPA, but there are many with a GPA requirement of 2.5
or above. As a transfer student we can average your transfer school
GPA with your Cal GPA to help you qualify (this does not apply if you
have been at Cal for more than 2 semesters).
Things to watch out for
* Be aware of application
deadlines. In some cases you may want to apply for a program before
you have actually begun classes on campus. Start planning now by researching
your programs of interest online and completing a program self-assement
form. You can also attend a How to Choose workshop or visit
the EAP Office for advising (make sure to bring your program self-assement
form with you). It's especially important to take language prerequisites
into account.
* Be aware of senior
residency issues. Talk with a college adviser about this.
