Conference explores India’s emergence on the world stage
The panel discussion “India: On the Road toward Superpower?” will address what lies ahead for one of the world’s fastest growing and most powerful nations, and discuss what India’s emergence means for the future of the world’s power balance.
The panel will feature:
Ananya Roy — The associate dean of academic affairs for International & Area Studies and the education director for the Blum Center for Developing Economies at the University of California, Berkeley, Ananya Roy teaches in the fields of comparative urban studies and international development. Professor Roy is the author of City Requiem, Calcutta: Gender and the Politics of Poverty. The title of her forthcoming book is Poverty Experts: Truth and Capital in the New Global Order of Development.
Sabeer Bhatia — The co-founder of Hotmail and Arzoo.com, Sabeer Bhatia is a founder of Nanocity, a new city that aims to replicate in India the vibrancy and innovative ecosystem of California’s Silicon Valley. UC Berkeley researchers have been involved in the design of the new Nanocity.
Kanwal Rekhi — The managing director of Inventus Capital Partners. He is currently a key investor in and mentor to aspiring entrepreneurs; and has invested in more than 45 start-ups. Kanwal Rekhi Kanwal is a past Chairman and trustee of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) a global nonprofit dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship.
Rafiq Dossani — A senior research scholar at Stanford’s Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center and the executive director of its South Asia Initiative, Rafiq Dossani is currently undertaking projects on political reform, business process outsourcing, innovation and entrepreneurship in information technology, and security in the Indian subcontinent.
