The Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, UC Berkeley, is now conducting a search for qualified applications for the position of Lecturer in Telugu language starting Fall 2007. We are recruiting initially at the level of a part-time position (i.e. one course for beginners per semester). However, there is a possibility that the position will become a full-time one in the next 2 to 3 years. The salary will commensurate with degree and teaching experience.

The applicant must have a minimum of a M.A. degree from an accredited university in any discipline, learned Telugu formally through high school, and be able to demonstrate native command of Telugu and English.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Ability to read, write and speak Telugu with native fluency
  • Past teaching experience in Telugu
  • Willingness to work independently, teach classes during normal working hours, and maintain office hours
  • Eagerness to develop instructional material for teaching Telugu as a second language

This position is ideal for someone who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area or is willing to travel from surrounding areas.
