Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Religion and Hinduism
Concordia University, Montreal

The Department of Religion invites applications for one tenure-track position in the area of Hinduism. Applicants must be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses from a religious studies approach. The ability to teach in the related fields of comparative religion and women and religion will be considered an asset.

Candidates for the position may approach the study of Hinduism as textualists, historians, or anthropologists, but must have a well-developed specialization with the relevant language skills (at least two South Asian languages one of which normally would be Sanskrit). The ideal candidate should be able to teach the history and practice of Hinduism, including the philosophical and textual traditions.

Applications should consist of a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, copies of recent publications, a statement of teaching philosophy and interests, a writing sample, a statement of research achievements and evidence of teaching effectiveness including course evaluations. E-mail applications will not be accepted. Candidates should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent directly to Dr. Norma Joseph at the address below.

Subject to budgetary approval, we anticipate filling this position, normally at the rank of Assistant Professor, for July 1, 2007. Review of applications will begin as of October 12, 2006 and will continue until the positions are filled.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. Concordia University is committed to employment equity.
