Fundraising Objectives

  • $1.5 Million: Named Bengali Studies Program
    Funds will go toward:
    1. Teaching Bengali at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels
    2. Materials, including state-of-the-art digital Bengali tools, increased library holdings and language pedagogy support
    3. Outreach, including promotion, publication, conferences and public lectures
  • $1.5 Million: Named Distinguished Visiting Professorship
Two options exist for this endowment:
    1. An annual, one-semester appointment for a high-profile senior scholar in Bengali Studies
    2. A biennial, year-long appointment for such a scholar
  • $2 Million: Named Undergraduate Experiential Learning/Study Abroad Programs
Funding for hands-on study abroad internships at NGOs, and in the arts, media, politics, or business
  • $1 Million: Named Graduate Fellowship
This will be reserved for foreign students in particular (such as those coming to the U.S. from South Asia). Such students cannot receive federal funding and have fewer options open to them at a public university such as Berkeley.
