Lingnan University, Hong Kong invites applications for the post of Professor(s) / Associate Professor(s) / Assistant Professor(s) in World History in the Department of History. The appointee will have the ability to teach World History, broadly defined. The specific need of the History Department is for a colleague who is qualified to teach Southeast Asian History, South Asian History, and courses on portions of the world other than China and Western Europe. The successful applicant will be capable and prepared to teach comparative, thematic or topical courses. Applicants are required to provide a list of courses which they are prepared to teach, and others which they would be willing to develop that are comparative. If appointed at the Professor or Associate Professor level, the appointee also is expected to assist in providing academic and administrative leadership in the department. All members of the History Department are required to participate in historical methodology and senior seminar courses.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in History by the time of taking up the appointment, with relevant teaching experience and research record. For appointment as Professor, applicants should have substantial research and teaching experience with significant scholarly publications and academic achievements. For appointment as an Associate Professor, applicants normally should have five years of relevant experience and have a sound track record of teaching, published research, and scholarly activities. Applicants are required to provide evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. The successful appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and service to the Department, the University, and the community. An appointee is also expected to engage actively in quality published research.

Conditions of Appointment:

The monthly salary is in the following approximate ranges: Professor ­ HK$67,600 to HK$88,000; Associate Professor - HK$55,200 to HK$72,700; Assistant Professor - HK$40,600 to HK$64,000 (exchange rate: US$1=HK$7.8). The rank and remuneration on appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will initially be made on a fixed-term contract normally of three years, which is renewable subject to mutual agreement and budgetary considerations. After appointment, for those appointed at the rank of Professor/Associate Professor, fast-tracked substantiated (tenured) appointments may be considered exceptionally in the case of appointees with outstanding performance and ability.
