Sujata Mody, a PhD candidate in the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, will give a talk on the Hindi journal Sarasvati and its contributions to the development of a modern literary genre, the Hindi short story, and a modern Indian national identity. The material for this talk is taken from her dissertation, titled “Sarasvati’s Sahitya: The Formation of Modern Hindi Literature in an Early 20th Century Hindi Journal.”
