The Department of Asian Languages and Literatures in the College of
Liberal Arts, at the University of Minnesota, is seeking applications
for a full-time, non-tenure track position in Urdu language teaching.
We are looking for a candidate who can teach Urdu at both the first
and second year levels. This 100% time academic year appointment is
from August 28, 2006 to May 27, 2007. Salary is competitive, with excellent
benefits. The appointment is renewable annually depending on departmental
need, funding, and performance. Position remains open until

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach assigned language classes/sections;
keep office hours; prepare course materials; engage in curriculum development;
prepare and grade exams; and participate in program governance as appropriate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. degree. Native or near-native proficiency
in Urdu. Experience in Urdu language instruction. Strong English language
communication skills. Candidate must have excellent verbal and written
communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Competence in both the Nagari and Perso-Arabic
alphabets. Ability to teach both Hindi and Urdu is preferred, but not
required. M.A. or Ph.D. in Hindi/Urdu or related area. College-level
teaching experience in Hindi/Urdu. Ability to teach at different levels
to a wide range of individuals. Applicants holding the Ph.D. will be
hired at the level of Lecturer; applicants with the B.A. or M.A. will
be hired as Teaching Specialists.
